| British Jazz award winner Alec Dankworth leads this Trio through an eclectic repertoire of originals inspired by Dave Holland, Garcia Lorca and Sting, as well as tunes by composers such as Dave Brubeck and Abdullah Ibrahim. Featuring the expansive euphony of Julian Arguelles on saxes and the princely plectrum of Phil Robson on guitar. Alec DankworthAlec has worked with artists as diverse as Stephanne Grappelli, Abdullah Ibrahim and Van Morrison. After studying at Berklee Colledge of Music, Alec became a member of various groups, notably Clark Tracey, Julian Joseph and Nigel Kennedy. During a period of residency in New York he played with the Duke Ellington Orchestra and joined the Dave Brubeck Quartet. Alec has since rejoined his parents' group and leads the Alec Dankworth Trio. His recent recordings have been with the Dave Brubeck Quartet, and the Bill Lesage Trio. Julian ArguellesJulian studied briefly at Trinity College of Music before joining the much acclaimed band Loose Tubes. Since then he has been working in many projects including The Kenny Wheeler Big Band, John Abercrombie and John Scofield. Julian's Quartet has recorded Two CDs, the first featuring John Taylor, and the second featuring Steve Swallow. He was commissioned by BBC to write for a new octet in1996. He has also written for the Apollo Saxophone Quartet. In 1999 Julian was the recipient of the Jazz Composers Alliance Composition Award. Phil RobsonPhil attended the Guildhall School of Music. Since then he has played with musicians including Jean Toussaint, Gerrard Prescencer, Tim Garland and Iain Ballamy's Acme. Phil is featured on all Christine Tobin's albums, the latest of these was recorded in New York and features Mark Turner. He co leads the band "Partisans" with Julian Siegel and has recorded two CDs to date. Phil was commissioned in '99 to write and perform music for an octet, which has since toured. In the most recent, the band was joined by a community steel band plus an Indian percussion group! |
